Had music class with Mrs. Hartley this morning, and continued working on multiplication to finish that unit prior to our break. Mr. Hassett will be in our class tomorrow to work with us. We also focused on our narrative fiction stories, particularly our beginnings. Students worked on improving their first story's beginning. Revising is hard work, but we've started to see some great ideas come to light as well as an openness to make changes. Today also marked the start of gymnastics during Phys Ed, and our students really enjoyed the Canadian Climber and all of the equipment set up. We finished our lap books in Science and have officially completed the Waste in our World unit. What went well... We worked hard today! For the most part students were settled, had good listening ears with all adults in the building and tried their best. We also did a great job during mindfulness as students practice what it means to be calm, still and regulate following a very busy lunch/recess/gym chunk of time. Way to go! Reminders... The grade 1/2s will be presenting on World Water Day tomorrow. If you can spare some change, please bring it in! I also sent home today some information on field trips within walking distance. Now that the weather is warming up, we are hoping to get out to Nose Hill Park as part of our mindfulness practice. The plan is for us to walk up there on Wednesday afternoon as the weather is supposed to be quite nice and spend some time in sit spots doing some macro and micro-journalling. Spirit Day: Decade Day (dress up as your favourite decade), March 21st Upcoming Fun Lunch: March 21st (Pizza Hut) Spring Break: Starts on Friday, March 22nd Soccer Residency (April 8-12, 15th) Have a great evening! Started out our day with the PLP class and Mobile Escape! We had an awesome time working together and using our brains to solve puzzles. We participated in two locked rooms, an Egypt-themed one and a submarine one. We managed to make it out of the submarine one just in time- 12 minutes is not a lot of time when all is said and done. We completed our Wordwork and Guided Reading, as well as worked on our narrative fiction stories based on The Village. We also spent time working on our multiplication skills, and are finishing up our Waste in our World Science unit. We continued working on our static movements in gym, and practiced mindfulness this afternoon. Finally, we have been talking about bullying and teasing as we continue to develop our positive friendship skills in Health. What went well... We were excellent ambassadors during our Mobile Escape time. Despite being put into groups with other students we don't typically work with, we did our best to come together as a team and problem-solve in very appropriate ways. Mobile Escape- The best part? "I liked everything about it!". (MK) "The locked rooms!" (LC) "I liked the Pharaoh's Tomb". (TV) "I liked the teamwork that it took! (JM) Students have also been using our Regulation space more responsibly, and the Buddha Board seems to be a hit. Reminders... Inquiry Hour is tomorrow as well as the Grade 1/2 Celebration of Learning assembly. Spirit Day: Decade Day (dress up as your favourite decade), March 21st Upcoming Fun Lunch: March 21st (Pizza Hut) Spring Break: Starts on Friday, March 22nd Soccer Residency (April 8-12, 15th) Have a great evening! Mrs. Maheu Tuesday, March 19 is World Water Day.
The Water Club will be sharing a presentation to teach all students in our school about accessibility to clean water and sanitation. We will also be collecting Change for Change (on March 19 and 20) and giving it to a Calgary based, non-profit organization known as CAWST (the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology). Our goal is to make waves and raise $600 in order to help CAWST provide the knowledge and skills for people around the world to have proper sanitation and access to clean water. Please help us help others! Thank you! Mrs. Patterson, Ms. Petrie and the students in the Water Club. Today we...
Worked on our Wordwork, Guided Reading, and Raz-Kids. We had our final Karate class, which has been something the students have really enjoyed this week. We participated in Inquiry Hour, did our Mindfulness activity and finished the day with Health. We have started our Bullying unit in class. What went well... All of our students integrated during Inquiry Hour, and were engaged and active participants in class! We have students in all three groups, with an Art group currently working on Totem Poles, the STEM group working on building Longhouses, and the Environmental Group planning the natural learning space for North Haven. We had excellent participation and listening ears in our Karate class, ending the week on a positive note. The best part? "The tapping knee game with a partner". (MK) "The punching" (LC) "I liked doing the punching bag". (TV) Reminders... Next Thursday morning we will have a opportunity to be part of the CSI Mobile experience with the grade 5 and 6s! We will discuss this as a class as we get closer to the date. Grade 1/2 Celebration of Learning assembly is taking place next Friday, March 15th. Have a lovely weekend, and we'll see you on Monday.
