On Fridays we are now regrouping with the other grade 5/6 classrooms, as well as PLP, to explore areas of passion for students. The three main groups will focus on Art, STEM and Environmental Stewardship. Students have had an opportunity to see what all three groups are about, and have made their selection for the year. We're looking forward to seeing what our Friday Inquiry Hour brings and the awesome learning experiences the students will get to be part of.
"I'm looking forward to being positive in integration and meeting new friends!" (MK) "I'm excited about art." (KJ) "I want to use paints and I want to learn how to do art better!" (TV) "I am excited to explore all of the new units with all of the kids." (JM) Mrs. Maheu

A reminder that the field study to the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory is taking place next Monday, December 3rd. A number of our students in integration will be attending this as they have been working hard studying the moon in Science. This exciting field trip will consist of all the grade 5/6 classrooms at our school, with Ms. Murphy supporting our students (if required). Please remember to return your field trip permission forms, as well as payment, as soon as possible.
Thanks, Mrs. Maheu We are asking for new book donations and will be wrapping those new books for our Community Outreach Evening on December 13th. These books are being collected for the Alberta Children's Hospital, and will be given to children as well as be part of the hospital’s Family and Community Resource Centre library. Once the books have been wrapped, I will deliver the book presents to the Hospital.
We're looking forward to giving back to the ACH and all the amazing work they do with kids. Below is the Book Wish List. Thanks in advance for your support! The Bridges and PLP classrooms Another week, another awesome residency, another fabulous performance! Our kids did a really great job of getting up in front of the school (and guests).
According to our students, the best part of SoundKreations was: - "Freestyling because you can do whatever you want!. I also really liked the music." (KJ) - "I felt proud about performing. I really liked the jump jump move and the criss cross move." (MK) - "I got to see what the other students learned." (TV) The majority of our students integrated for the SoundKreation time and performed with their integration classes. For those students interested in dance and would like to pursue it further, Ty spoke about a website students can sign up for free: http://skmonthly.com Our classroom has started practicing with Ty from SoundKreations in preparation for our school-wide performance on Thursday. To clear up any confusion, the performance will be THIS Thursday, November 15th from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Hopefully we'll see a few familiar faces in the crowd!
Mrs. Maheu The students in our classroom did an awesome job this week working with Teddy Anderson and learning how to hoop dance.
Some of the students favourite memories were: - "Learning to throw the hoop up in the air and catching it up in the air, and spinning it on your thumb!" (KJ) - "Learning how to do the bird with 5 hoops, and flicking with your leg!" (MK) - "Freestyling, which is doing whatever hoop trick you want." (KW) - "The best part was the meaning behind it". (GW) - "I loved seeing how engaged and excited the students were to practice this everyday, and how most of them stepped outside of their comfort zone and challenged themselves to perform this in front of the school. That is no easy task, and I'm proud of them all". (Mrs.M) For Your Information:
Life Touch will becoming for retake photos Nov. 8th. Please bring the original proof sheets to the camera session. The photographer can then see how to improve the photos for the students. We are excited to welcome Ty Flemming from SoundKreations to our school from November 12-15 to teach us about the performing art of dance and spoken word.
Physical Literacy is the motivation, confidence, competence, and understanding to value AND take responsibility for your engagement in physical activities. SoundKreations is an in-school program provider that breathes life and relevance into dance and poetry curriculum. Facilitated by the top professional dancers and artists in Western Canada, they offer an engaging method of developing student's physical literacy and appreciation for the creative process. They are dancers, teachers, mentors, big brothers, and big sisters who have been trained specifically for the school environment, and share a responsibility to support today's youth and provide opportunities for success. Through dance and poetry instruction, they encourage students to explore possibilities in a safe environment with people who believe in them. We look forward to our performance on Friday November 15 from 2:00-2:30pm. |
