As Remembrance Day approaches, our classroom will begin exploring the idea of peace and what it means to us.
We will discuss peaceful vs. non-peaceful situations and look at peaceful activists around the world. We will also be part of the Remembrance Day ceremony at North Haven. We are hoping to share the Peace Poems we create over the next few weeks. Finally, we are planning on partaking in the Postcards for Peace program which provides us the opportunity to send postcards to express messages of thanks to those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace or to still-serving Canadian Armed Forces members. Students will ask themselves- "How can I bring peace into my life? How can school be more peaceful? How can home be more peaceful?"

We have started working on a kindness project in our classroom in hopes that we can continue to develop a caring, safe space for all of us. We started the project with a brainstorming session asking the question:
What is kindness? Kindness is... Friendship and getting along with each other! (MK) Doing a kind thing. It can go from small things to big things. (GW) Helping somebody with homework. (KSA) Someone who is nice to another person! (KJ) Sharing with others. (TV) My mom makes me delicious food. (BM) Buying a homeless man food and $1500 to buy a car. (JB) We are starting to document the kind things we notice in our classroom, and have begun talking about the Kindness Rocks Project. As that project gets underway we will begin blogging about our process. To tie in nicely with the theme of kindness and Thanksgiving, we read Stone Soup as a class. The story focuses on the ability of people to come together in a selfless way, contribute to the group and make something amazing- delicious soup from only a few stones! We'll be making our own stone soup next Thursday. A letter went home to families asking that their child bring one chopped vegetable to contribute to the soup. We'll be making buns and sharing lunch as a classroom community. Thanks for your continued support, Mrs. Maheu Dear Parents/Guardians
Remember, Picture Day is coming on Tuesday, October 9! Make it simple by ordering your portraits online, using your Picture Day ID and child's first name to get started. If you prefer to order on paper, we will be sending an order form home as well. Remember to smile and have fun! -LifeTouch |
