Part of the work we've been doing in Room 7 is learning about Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset. A fixed mindset assumes that intelligence and other qualities, abilities and talents are fixed traits that cannot be significantly developed. A growth mindset assumes that intelligence and other qualities, abilities and talents can be developed with effort, learning and perseverance. Everyone is born to learn and we're all at a different place in our learning. It's not a matter of "I can't" but a matter of "I can't yet".
As we move through the year, we will be challenging our students to shift from that fixed mindset to one of growth, hopefully increasing confidence in our learners. As confidence increases so does the academic risk-taking and challenges that students are willing to take on to grow as learners and young people. A quick reminder that the Curriculum Evening is happening this Thursday, September 13th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Our North Haven Parent Association will also be hosting a "Welcome Back" pizza event from 4:30 - 5:30 pm out on the compound behind our school. Classroom meetings will follow at 5:30 pm; we will be meeting in our classroom (Room 7). I'm looking forward to connecting with parents and being able to discuss, as well as answer questions, around what this year will look like with regards to our classroom, curriculum, integrations and so forth.
