We started our very last day of school by playing the speech and language games to focus on using sequencing words (before, after, first, next, tomorrow, yesterday) to order the days of the week and months of the year. Then, we had our school farewell assembly. The students got to say goodbye to staff that are leaving, as well as remember some learning highlights from the year.
After an extended recess outside, the students used the iPads to play math games together. Then, we did a Kahoot! quiz that I created. The quiz focused on facts about each student and staff member of the PLP class - it was a very fun quiz! After lunch we had a little class party, where the students got time for group games, and we watched a movie together. The students also got to have some popcorn! Thank you all for such a fabulous year, everyone has made such great progress - I am really proud of every student in the PLP class! **Reminders: - Report cards and IPPs go home today - First day of school is September 3 - Students will have an opportunity to come in for a classroom visit at the end of the summer if they want to Have a safe and happy summer! Ms. Anderson Today we had a few minutes in the classroom, then we went straight into our Sports Day assembly. The students then all went outside and took part in a variety of activities and games designed to promote creating a healthy and happy community through movement and teamwork. Everyone did a lot of different activities for Sports Day, and they all had a lot of fun!
After snack and a break in the classroom, the students cleaned out their desks and organized their books to bring home. They then had a bit of time doing some independent reading and comprehension on Raz Kids. We finished the session with a Kahoot! quiz. After lunch we had gym and went outside to make the most of the sunshine. We then had science, where the students made and decorated paper airplanes. We then spent some time testing them to see which ones flew the farthest. **Reminders: - Tomorrow is the last day of school! - Report cards and IPPs go home tomorrow Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson Today we continued to practice our speech and language skills through sequencing the days of the week and months of the year using: before, after, next, tomorrow, yesterday. The students are getting much more confident with these words. They then watched the last part of Annie - everyone was pleased with the happy ending!
The class then went to the Grade 6 Farewell assembly. Thank you to the families that joined us to celebrate the journey of our Grade 6 students, and to wish them luck in the next chapter of their education. We had snack and break time outside, then the students learned a couple of new math games with Mr. Hassett, the math coach. After lunch we had some free time with basketballs and scooters in the gym, and then our class visited the Gr. 3/4 Empathy Expo where they shared projects that they have been working on. We liked seeing all of their hard work! We then finished the day with cooking. The students made summer sundaes, which used up left over whipping cream from last week, as well as the rest of the ice cream that we made. The students had to do a lot of whisking, which they are starting to improve in. The sundaes got a lot of thumbs ups! **Reminders: - Tomorrow is Sports Day, students are asked to dress appropriately for the weather - If the weather is rainy, we will have an indoor sports day - IPPs and report cards will be sent home on Wednesday - Wednesday is the last day of school Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson Today we started our day with the days of the week and months of the year, incorporating our speech and language activity through using the words: before, after, tomorrow, yesterday, next. The students then watched the next part of Annie - they are enjoying the music and the dancing! The students then had art, and worked to finish their collages of their dream job. It's great to see the different goals that the students have!
After an indoor recess, the students thought about National Indigenous Peoples Day. They listened to a story that talked about indigenous culture and history, and as they listened they were asked to sketch the things that they heard about. The pictures were fantastic and the details that they recalled from the story were amazing! They really learned about indigenous people, and how they contributed to life in Canada. The Grade 6 students then went to rehearse for Monday's graduation, and the other students played math games. **Reminders: - Gr. 6 Farewell is Monday at 9:00 - Sports Day is Tuesday (if it rains, it will be indoors) - Last day of school is Wednesday, report cards and IPPs will go home that day Have a nice weekend, Ms. Anderson Dear North Haven Families,
In light of the forecast for tomorrow, we will be holding our Sports Day event on Tuesday June 25th. Please ensure you come dressed for the weather. If there are thunderstorms and heavy rain on the 25th, we will hold the event inside with alternate games. Stay dry this weekend! North Haven School Today we practiced using 'before', 'after', 'tomorrow', 'yesterday' and 'next' for speech and language. We used these words to explore and sequence the days of the week and months of the year. Next, the students watched the next part of Annie. They are enjoying the differences between the book and the movie, as well as the singing and dancing. The class then had time for guided reading with an adult, as well as independent reading and comprehension on Raz Kids.
After recess the students had music with Mrs. Hartley, and then we had math. Today we played math games, where the students explored symmetry using 2D shapes, patterns in an online game, and sequencing numbers through a card game. They had a lot of fun, and it was a great opportunity for them to practice math skills, as well as take turns and work as a team. After lunch the students had phys. ed. and played some games in the gym. We then did art, to complete the silhouette collages that we started working on yesterday. The students using magazines, as well as computers to find images that represent their dream job. **Reminders: - Sports Day is tomorrow, rain date is Tuesday - Gr. 6 Farewell is Monday at 9:00 - Last day of school is June 26 - Tomorrow is early dismissal Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson Today we worked on our speech and language skills through our new daily activity of sequencing the days of the week and months of the year using 'before' and 'after'. Then we watched the next part of Annie. The students are really enjoying it and noticing some significant differences between the book and the movie. The class then had time to do some free writing based on a picture that they drew.
After recess we had science. The students broke into groups and each group built paper airplanes using different designs. We tested them and made observations to infer which design was most successful. We will be experimenting with paper airplanes again before the end of the year. After lunch we had gym, and then we had art. The Gr. 6 students are making collages using their silhouette and the idea of 'future you' for their graduation, and while they worked on these the other students did a similar activity. They all thought about things that they like, and what they want to do when they are grown up. Each person made a collage about their dream job or hobby. **Reminders: - Sports Day is June 21, rain date is June 25 - Last day of school is June 26 - If you have not yet made an appointment to sign the final IPP, please contact me!
