We had a lot of fun in the PLP class today!
As usual, we started our day in the gym with the Bridges class - today we practiced our basketball skills. It was great to see such good teamwork and passing between the players! We then read a chapter of Charlotte's Web, and worked on some literacy skills. Some students are reviewing some phonics and letter sounds, while others are working on sequencing events in a story and story writing. After recess, we talked about what 'math' means, why we learn it in school, and how we use it in our day to day lives. The students then completed the 'Lily Pad STEM Challenge', where they had to use given materials to design a lily pad to support frogs. The designs were all different and original, and some of the lily pads held up a lot of frogs without sinking - great work everyone! **Reminders - Monday is Orange Shirt Day - Volunteers are still needed for the casino fundraiser (see previous post for details) - Please sign up for a parent/teacher interview slot - Please sign and return any forms that have been sent home Have a great weekend! Today in PLP we started the day with time in the gym to wake ourselves up, then we listened to a chapter of Charlotte's Web and worked on some literacy skills. After a snowy recess outside, we did some math that involved counting and addition. Next week we will start to work on some different math skills.
Following a rainy lunch recess, we worked on some science, and then we exchanged our books in the library. It's really great to see everyone so engaged in finding books and sharing them with their friends! We started the day with gym and listening to a chapter of Charlotte's Web, then we had literacy that included phonics and writing. After snack we worked on adding and counting, as well as worked on some Charlotte's Web themed spider web art. They are looking great so far! We had lunch, then the students had music followed by speech & language group games. We focused on giving instructions to others, as well as asking and answering questions. **Reminders: - Library tomorrow, please send back books to exchange - School pictures are on October 9 - Please sign and return media consent forms if you haven't already Thanks! Ms. Anderson All of the students in the class worked hard today, and we got a lot done! We worked on some reading, writing and letter recognition in literacy, then counting and adding in math. The students also practiced identifying healthy foods in our health lesson. After lunch we did some social studies and looked at the provinces and capitals of Canada, and then we had some fun making up slogans to help us remember the compass directions N(ever) W(orms) E(at) S(limy) We finished the day by creating our own model wetlands, to demonstrate what we have learned about them over the past few weeks. Although they are not all finished, they look fantastic! It was great to see everyone's creativity and understanding, and that the students worked on them with very little support. Awesome! If you have not already, please take a look at the available time slots for parents evening. Thanks, Ms. Anderson Today everyone seemed to have enjoyed their weekend, and it took us a little while to settle back into 'school mode' - but we got there and ended up getting a lot of work done! This morning we practiced some badminton skills in gym, then did some thinking and writing about what everyone did over the weekend in literacy. We started to do some math and technology, but then changed our plan and spent some time in the Learning Commons working on a Kahoot! quiz as a group, which focused on technology and digital citizenship. I am very happy to report that all the students got some very important right answers, especially about whether or not it is safe to meet strangers from the internet. Great work everyone! After lunch the students had music, and then we did cooking. Today we made piggy pastries in honour of Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. There was some great listening that happened during cooking, and the pastries came out looking adorable! We ended the day on a really positive note, and we at North Haven are looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow. Have a great evening, Ms. Anderson Today was another busy day!
First thing this morning the students had gym with the Bridges class, then we did some writing and phonics in literacy. After snack we had math and a life skills session where we practiced telling time on a clock. Everyone is starting to get better at knowing what time it is! After lunch we had some time in the library to exchange our books and explore some of the other stories. **If you child has brought home library books, can you please return them to school Following the library we had a school-wide assembly to learn about Terry Fox, and then we all went outside to do the Terry Fox Run. Thank you to all of the students for taking part so positively! It was great to see the whole school enjoying the fresh air and running/walking for a good cause. Reminders: - Please return library books to school - Please do not send in toys from home, we have plenty of things to play with at school - No school tomorrow (PD day) Have a great weekend! Ms. Anderson
This morning in the PLP class we worked on reading assessments, word games and puzzles. The students then finished their math assessments. During our health session the students played 'Healthy Pictionary' where they had to draw healthy foods and physical activities for their friends to guess. Everyone had a lot of fun!
After lunch today we had a science lesson, where the students were investigating the wetlands and thinking about what plants and animals live there. We then finished the afternoon with a science-themed Kahoot! quiz. Thursday is the North Haven Elementary School Terry Fox run. We are asking all families that are able to help us raise money by donating a 'toonie for Terry'. After an assembly, the students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox run. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! A few questions have been asked about lunches: - Please do not send any lunches with peanut butter, to help us keep students and staff with allergies safe. - Please do not send lunches that need to be heated up, the students do not have regular access to microwaves. - Please remind your children that they are not allowed to share or swap lunches with their friends. Thank you! Ms. Anderson We had a very busy Monday in PLP!
We started the day with our literacy carousel, where the students played word games, wrote about what they did over the weekend, and worked on some reading assessments. We then had a math carousel where the students worked on math assessments, number games and had a technology session that focused on digital citizenship. There were a lot of great ideas about what it means to be a good digital citizen! In the afternoon the class had music with Mrs. Hartley, and then we did cooking in the staff room. We will be doing cooking every Monday afternoon, where we will be working on basic skills in the kitchen. Today we made pretzel spider webs in honour of the book we are reading, Charlotte's Web. They turned out great! Please return your child's third party media consent form if you haven't already so that we can share more of our fabulous pictures! Ms. Anderson In the PLP class today everyone worked on some literacy, including both writing and phonics, as well as having some time to explore books in the classroom. We also worked on our number recognition, sequencing and adding in the math session.
In gym we had scooter board races with a partner, and it was great to not only see our students cheering on their partners, but also cheering on their classmates. Well done everyone! At the end of the morning we played some group games which focused largely on the social communication skills of asking and answering questions. The students are already starting to improve in their ability to give and receive information. Great work! Have a fantastic weekend everyone, Ms. Anderson |
