This morning we started the day with the calendar, days of the week and a bit more of the Christmas Chronicles - we will finish the movie tomorrow and have more discussion around the plot and characters. Next, we had guided reading and Raz kids.
After recess, we had math to consolidate some of our learning around fractions, and we also had some time to use the pattern blocks to represent fractions visually. The students then had some time to work on their social studies Amazing Race projects, which they have made good progress on this week. The class had gym after lunch with the Bridges class, and then we had some art time to finish the 3D holiday cards that they started yesterday. It turned into a problem solving opportunity, as a lot of the kids found it difficult to construct the 3D part of the card. However, everyone has now created a beautiful card, and it allowed them to learn a bit about perseverance! At the end of the day, we had our last whole school caroling opportunity in the gym. It was really fun to see everyone sing and dance, and some of our students even got to use shakers during one of the songs! **Reminders - Tomorrow is the last day of school before the winter break - All library books need to be returned - If there are any parents who would like to volunteer to help re-shelve books now that our library is painted, please contact us! We are looking for help during the first week back to school in January Have a great evening! Ms. Anderson

Today was a super fun PJ Day! It was great to have everyone so comfy and cosy.
We started the day with the calendar and the days of the week, then we watched a bit more of the Christmas Chronicles. Next, we used our learning about adjectives to think of adjectives for the three main characters in the movie. The students came up with a lot of great words! Next, we had caroling with the rest of the school in the gym. After recess, the students worked on their Amazing Race social studies maps for the Great Lakes region, then we started to make some winter or holiday cards. These will be finished tomorrow. Following lunch recess, we had gym and then we did some whole class speech and language practice. The students are wrapping up their practice with pronouns, and we used play dough to build pictures and words to represent pronouns that were shown in pictures. Finally, we had math with Mr. Hassett, where we practiced fractions by using smaller shapes to create a larger shape. It was a fun and hands on way to practice our math learning and some basic counting. **Reminders - Library books need to be returned before the holidays - Friday is the last day of school before the break Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson Today we started with the calendar and a bit more of the Christmas Chronicles - the students are enjoying it so far and are getting really good at recalling key information from the story! Next, we had guided reading groups and Raz Kids for some independent reading and comprehension.
After recess the class had music with Mrs. Hartley, then we had math where we played fractions bingo and had to identify visuals and words of different fractions. The class had gym after lunch, and then we had caroling in the gym with the rest of the school. It was really fun to get to join the other classes for some holiday songs! We ended the day with coloring maps of the Great Lakes region of Canada as part of our Amazing Race social studies project. **Reminders - Return all library books before the break - Tomorrow is PJ Day! (no stuffies please) - Last day of school is Friday December 21 Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson We started the last week of school before the holidays with a very busy Monday!
After our regular morning routine of days of the week and the calendar, the students started watching the movie Christmas Chronicles. We will be watching it for 15 minutes each morning this week, in lieu of our Read Aloud and Reflect session. I will start a new book with them after the winter break. Next, the students had spelling and literacy where they used adjectives to write about what they did over the weekend. We finished the session with a whole group speech and language session, as we are wrapping up working on using correct pronouns. Everyone is now consistently recognizing which pronouns refer to which gender, and whether or not they indicate more than one person. After recess, we had math and started using the fractions terms 'thirds', 'fourths' and 'fifths'. Some students make these fractions, while others had to identify them from choices. We then had technology, and did a Kahoot! quiz about Christmas. The students are getting better at logging in quickly, getting onto the website and then logging out again when they are finished. After lunch we had gym outside - it was a beautiful day for some fresh air! Then we had cooking. We made 'Christmas Crunch', and it looks delicious! Each person has brought some home to try. We had a few minutes left at the end of the day, so we had a drawing contest. It was great to see the creativity of each person as they drew whatever they wanted! **Reminders - PJ day is Wednesday, students can wear pjs or a onesie - Kindergarten/Grade 1/2 Christmas performance is Friday at 9:30 - Friday is the last day of school before the holidays - Please return all library books before the holidays Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson Dear North Haven Families,
We are excited to be holding another performance on Friday December 21stat 9:30am – 10am. The Kindergarten, 1/2 students would like to invite you to watch them singing songs and reciting seasonal poems to celebrate the holidays. Parents, family members and friends are welcome to attend this performance. We look forward to seeing you! Sincerely, North Haven School We started the day with the calendar and sequencing the days of the week, then we watched a brief video of a poem about Christmas. This let us have a discussion and make connections about things that we saw in the video.
Next, the students had their final Rocks and Rings session. They all seemed to really enjoy curling, and they all picked up some good skills! Then, the students worked on some calendar- based math problem solving questions around how many days it is until Christmas Day this year, the next year and the one after that! After a snack and recess the students had an integrated Inquiry Time session. Most of our class have chosen to focus on art, with a few of them choosing STEM. The students worked hard and did well to work with their peers. At the end of the day we had some social communication time and the students played group games to focus on taking turns, using positive language with each other and to focus on some vocabulary. Also, a BIG thank you to the North Haven community for all of the fabulous books that were donated for Community Outreach Night! We received boxes and boxes of them, and they will be gratefully received by the Alberta Children's Hospital. Thank you! **Reminders - PJ Day is December 19 - Last day of school is December 21 - All library books should be returned to school before the break Have a great weekend, Ms. Anderson What a day! We had our usual routine of calendar problem solving, we finished Matilda and then we went to Rocks and Rings in the gym. Today was more like a proper game where the students learned how to score. Then they all had some time on Raz Kids for independent reading.
We also spent some time on a group speech and language activity, where they had to illustrate pronouns and draw pictures. Everyone was able to show that when we use pronouns like 'they' and 'we' that it was more than one person. Great progress in language use and understanding! After recess the students had their last day of recorders with Mrs. Hartley, so they can now bring their recorders home and keep them there. We then had math where they worked on identifying shapes that are divided into equal parts, which can still be a bit tricky. We then had a very busy afternoon of preparing for the Community Outreach Night! The students made holiday decorations for the gym and the classroom, so hopefully families can make it in to see them. **Reminders - Community Outreach Night is tonight 5:30-7:30 - New children's book donations can be brought to the event for wrapping - Wednesday December 19th is pajama/onesie day, so everyone is welcome to wear their comfiest pjs! Hope to see you all tonight, Ms. Anderson Today we started with our calendar routine, and then we watched the next part of Matilda. The students are getting really good and recalling the key events from what they saw the day before, and remembering what will happen next from the book. Then we had Rocks and Rings. The class is really enjoying curling and it is also fun to see them playing with the students in another class.
After recess we had science, where the students used flour and 'meteorites' to create craters like we see on the moon. It was a really fun experiment, and the students made connections about the size and weight of the meteorites to the size and depth of the craters. We then had art to finish the science moon art project. Each piece looks fantastic! After lunch the students had math and focused on identifying equal and non-equal parts in shapes, which we will work on again next lesson. Finally, the class helped make some holiday decorations for community outreach night. **Reminders - Community Outreach Night is tomorrow 5:30-7:30 (it's not too late to donate!) - New children's books are being collected by our class - Library books are due Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson We started our morning with our usual routine of practicing the days of the week, setting up the calendar and doing some problem solving around the calendar. We then watched the next installment of Matilda, it is interesting to have the students compare what they heard in the book to what they are seeing in the story.
Next, we had Rocks and Rings in the gym with Mrs. O'Brien's class. It is really fun to see the kids interacting with their peers and learning some new physical skills! The students then had some independent reading and comprehension practice on Raz Kids, followed by a Kahoot! quiz on adjectives. After recess the students had music with Mrs. Hartley to practice the recorder, then they had math. We are still working on dividing and fractions and the concept of pieces being 'equal. It is tricky, but we are making progress! Following lunch, we had an art afternoon. The students are finishing up their science-based moon art by depicting the moon using a variety of different art media. We then started to create some decorations for the Community Outreach Night. **Reminders - Community Outreach Night is Thursday 5:30-7:30, donations that we still need were sent out today - our class is collecting new books to be wrapped for the children's hospital. Please feel free to donate to any class! - Fun lunch is on Thursday for students who placed an order Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson After starting our day with calendar problem solving, days of the week and a bit more of Matilda, the students had their first Rocks and Rings session with Mrs. O'Brien's class.
The students are learning curling in our gym, and they all had a lot of fun with it! It was great to see everyone adjusting their throws to improve their accuracy, as well as taking turns in a large group. We then wrote about Rocks and Rings in literacy, using lots of different adjectives to describe their experience and the equipment used. After snack, we had math where we talked about fractions and dividing things like pizzas and cakes into equal pieces to share with others. It is really helping their understanding to use real world examples. After math, we then had art. We are working on a moon art project that links to some of the science learning, and we are trying to get it done before the community outreach evening. Right after lunch we finished some of the artwork that we had been working on, and then we had cooking. We made 'moon sugar cookies', as they are round and have craters in them. We are continuing to work on measuring and mixing in our cooking sessions. **Reminders - Community Outreach Evening is Thursday December 13th from 5:30-7:30 - all donations are appreciated, and our class is collecting new children's books that we are going to wrap and send to the hospital. - Fun Lunch is Thursday December 13 for those students who placed an order - Library books are to be returned by the end of the week - Students are to be reminded that they are not to share food at school, they can only eat what they brought in their own lunch kits Have a nice evening, Ms. Anderson |
