You will need to be at school at the regular time on Tuesday October 2 with all of your labelled luggage, backpack, water bottle and bagged lunch. Please use the packing checklist in the parent booklet to ensure you have everything you need. Warm boots, coats, mittens and toques are necessary this week. As well, make sure you have warm pajamas, lots of socks/underwear and a bathing suit for the shower if you wish. Towels, facecloths and other toiletries are needed as well. A sleeping bag or warm blanket and pillow will ensure you are cozy at night.

Today the students were sent home with an additional form around an activity we will be participating in at camp. Please review and sign this form to ensure you have read over the risks involved with this activity. If there is any questions about this activity please contact Mrs. Hastie at jlhastie@cbe.ab.ca Picture day reminder forms were sent home today Students were sent home today with their computer log-in information/email sticker. Parents please ensure you ask your child about it and keep the sticker in a safe place. In Math, we co-created our problem-solving rubric. In Science, Grade 6 students continued to work on leaf and needle classification while Grade 5 students worked on researching adaptations of wetland plants and animals. In French, students learned French vocabulary around landscapes and identified words describing landscapes they expect to see at camp. - In Math, we spent time discussing what makes a good problem solving solution and built an example on the Smartboard. Students were given time to add/modify their How Many Triangles? Problem solving solution to bring it closer to what we discussed as "4" work. - In PE we played a relay races with passing, shooting and running - In French students mounted their Silhouette projects on black paper and then did a self-evaluation - In Science Grade 5 students worked with materials provided to research adaptations of wetlands plants and animals; Grade 6 students finished their Life of a Tree project and then, by looking at leaf samples, began to compare and contrast them and think of criteria for how to classify them and tell them apart. - In Humanities - students continued to work on their Current Events project using .Google Drive and a cool site called NEWSELA. The project expectations and link are posted in the shared Humanities folder on Google Drive. The bus to camp is leaving at 9:00 am sharp. It is VERY important the students arrive on time to school! 3: Students will be arriving back at school at between 1-2pm. Parents/ guardians or pre-arranged rides are asked to be at the school at 1:30 to pick up their child and collect their luggage. Create a Parent Account To access the new MyCBE / PowerSchool applications, legal guardians will need to create a new Parent Account. Previous My CBE Account and HomeLogic username/password will no longer work. To create a new account, go to this website: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe. You will need to know the email account your child's school has on file for you, as well as your child’s CBE Student ID number and birthdate to begin. Please contact your child’s teacher for this information. On the MyCBE / PowerSchool sign-in page, there will be instructions on how to request an access key for individual students. Today was a productive day: In Math we began applying problem solving steps to the How Many Triangles Problem Solving task. This will be due next week. In Math: - We added operations vocabulary to our problem solving duotangs. - We learned the CUBES and Math Seven methods for tackling problems in math - We worked in groups to create our own problem solving acronyms using WOLF or WOLVES. We voted on the one that we thought best captured all the necessary steps when completing problem solving solutions. - In PE we started continued to work on handball - In French we continued to work on a review project using our silhouettes as a backdrop to describing ourselves nom; anniversaire; age; aimee/preferer; et famille In Science: - Grade 5 students worked on their Jobs of a Wetland visual journal page which is due September 24 - Grade 6 students learned more about the parts of a tree trunk and their functions; labeled these parts on a tree cookie and learned about some important characteristics that affect the growth and development of trees. In Humanities: Grade 6 students worked to write stories about the life of their tree from the tree's perspective incorporating their science learning. Both Grade 5 and 6 students were introduced to current events and worked together to determine the components of a news article using researched topics. In Science, Grade 5's worked hard to complete their Venn diagrams comparing different types of wetlands while the Grade 6's learned completed target diagrams identifying producers, consumers, decomposers and non-living components of forest ecosystem. Additionally they determined the 5 levels of the forest and identified the plants and animals living in each level. Today we also had French. Students were able to recall and share some of the most interesting things we learned in previous years. They began working to determine the French names for common classroom objects using French-English dictionaries. In Humanities we started talking about Terry Fox and using Google Docs to write a response to the question: How have you shown perseverance like Terry Fox?
