Math - In Math we continued to work with support on the Federal Election Problem. We also completed a mad minute and graphed our results Humanities: Students worked on identifying different kinds of figurative language today. Most students printed, self assessed and handed in their science fiction short stories today. Grade 5's are continuing to work through the regions of Canada, learning about geography, resources, tourism, culture and the various contributions of each region to Canada. Grade 6's started to work on the Iroquois Confederacy today in Social Studies. Science: Grade 5 students continued to work on their weather instrument research Grade 6 students marked their Apparent Movement of the Sun Lab and handed it in Grade 6 students also began working on their Solar System Webquest. It is due Monday Nov. 4 Homework: Federal Election Problem-Solving - due Thursday October 31 - there will be time to work on the problem in class again on Wednesday and on Thursday Science Fiction Stories were due yesterday. Please hand in your story with your rubric filled out (self assessment) no later than Wednesday, October 30th.

Reminders: Parent Meeting for Camp Chief Hector is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29 from 4pm-5pm, in the Learning Commons. Camp will run from November 25-28, 2019 - 3nights, 4 days at Camp Chief Hector in Kananaskis. The fee is $284 to be paid online, by cheque or with cash. Math: Grade 5 and 6 - Today we started our Federal Election Problem-solving. We participated in lessons around bar graphs, double bar graphs, line graphs and double bar graphs as well as first and second hand data. We reviewed the success criteria for achieving a 4-2. Students also completed their first graphs (Gr. 5 - double bar graph, Gr. 6 - double line graph) comparing North Haven Student Vote data to the Student Vote data from another CBE school. Students are working in groups to create a script using French weather words and then communicate weather information via video or in-class performance. Grade 6 - Students finishing up graphing their data for the Apparent Motion of the Sun using both line and bar graphs. They also shared their understanding of how the sun appears to move but in reality it is the rotation of the Earth and the Earth's revolution around the Sun that creates the "movement" of the sun throughout the day. Social Studies Grade 5- Arctic Region Travel brochures - due Monday . We are working our way through the 6 regions of Canada, learning about what each region brings to Canada. Students have begun working on researching information about the Atlantic region. Grade 6 - Democracy lap books were due Monday Oct 21. Students were able to practice voting for one of the candidates for the school riding on Calgary Nose Hill. Voter turnout was great, our polling station was staffed by capable deputy returning officers, poll clerks and scrutineers, and our results were reported to the government for the National Student Vote count. We will be able to publish our results on Tuesday after the federal election vote results are in. Today we welcomed back Mrs. Hastie full time to our classroom! Field Study Tomorrow! We are headed into another busy week with a field study tomorrow to Telus Spark. Student will need to bring a full water bottle, litter-less lunch, and be dressed for the weather as part of this day is outside. You will need your visual journals, so if you took them home, be sure to have them back tomorrow. Many students have not yet returned their permission forms or paid the fee of $19.45. Forms must be here tomorrow or students will be spending the day at school working as a guest in another class. Thank you to those who are volunteering for this trip. We will be leaving at 8:30 am sharp. Social Studies: Both grades worked today to get to know a bit about the political landscape heading into our student vote on Friday. Math: Students have taken home their "Were you born on a Monday?" Math problem to be completed. Their POW is due on Tuesday. Science: Students had a quiz today to test their cloud and moon knowledge, thus far. They also spent time completing their Moon/Cloud journals. All incomplete work has been sent home to be completed this weekend. If your child has not submitted they can work on their Google Drive to complete all written work.
